The Artichoke dishware series

The name Artichoke was coined by potter Isabelle Milot, who remarked on the layered quality of my prototype forms—stacked, they resembled the folded leaves of an artichoke. Each piece in this series is handbuilt from stoneware slabs and shaped in custom ceramic press moulds. Particular attention is given to the exterior seams, which are intentionally left visible—an integral part of the design language. The exterior surface is unglazed and meticulously burnished, yielding an unexpectedly soft, tactile finish that invites handling. This sensory quality is perhaps the set’s most distinctive feature. The interior glaze is a satin-to-glossy off-white, punctuated with subtle specks and tonal shifts reminiscent of Dijon mustard. Cup handles are fashioned from fire-wire—a durable metal alloy that withstands high temperatures. The pieces are dishwasher and oven safe. Over time, as they’re used and washed, the exterior surface softens further, acquiring a delicate patina that enhances both texture and visual depth.
